Micah had his first camping experience this month! I was a little nervous going into the trip, wondering how he would handle sleeping in a tent and what we would do if it rained and how I would keep him from eating dirt and bugs all day...but that little boy was a camping pro! He slept well (even during the day), ate like a pig, ran (okay, crawled) laps around the tent, and loved interacting with his older cousins. Alex and Caden were so sweet and patient with Micah; they played with him in the playpen, threw balls to him, and made him laugh with their silly faces and noises.
The first night we had a downpour which made it a little difficult to have a non-walking child, but it eventually cleared up the following day and we had a wonderful time visiting Presque Isle where we played on a huge playground, had a cookout, and rode in a surrey around the park. Micah seemed to really enjoy the surrey ride...as long as he had a continuous stream of food being handed to him. On the way back to the campground, we stopped to pick raspberries. Micah went ballistic over them and we couldn't keep his hands out of the bucket!
Though it was quite exhausting, our first camping experience with a little one was overall a success. Micah loves being outdoors, as do Mommy and Daddy, so it wasn't too difficult to entertain him. I loved the peaceful environment away from technology and other distractions, spending time talking and enjoying God's creation. We enjoyed lots of walks around the campsite, toasting smores and mountain pies around the campfire, playing board games and bocce, and of course boat rides and fishing with Grandpa. I look forward to future camping trips when Micah can learn to fish, too!
